Job Summary:
The Clinical Insights Manager is a high-impact, highly autonomous role at the intersection of clinical expertise, product development, and customer engagement. Operating within a fast-moving medical device startup environment, this individual functions as the primary bridge between end users in the POCUS market and the internal engineering, product, commercial, and regulatory teams.
This is not a passive advisory role. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives without micromanagement, takes full ownership of their domain, and can translate nuanced clinical observations into precise, actionable engineering requirements and feedback. They are comfortable moving between bedside conversations with emergency physicians and whiteboard sessions with software engineers.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Feedback & Voice of Customer (VoC)
·Conduct structured and informal clinical evaluations with customers across target POCUS applications (emergency medicine, critical care, MSK, vascular, OB/GYN, cardiology, anesthesia, and others)
· Systematically capture, categorize, and prioritize customer feedback using established VoC methods; translate findings into structured product requirements using engineering-ready language
· Develop detailed clinical use case documentation, annotated image assessments, and workflow analyses to inform iterative product improvements
· Maintain an ongoing competitive intelligence baseline across POCUS platforms (image quality, workflow, ergonomics, AI features, regulatory status)
Product Development Collaboration
· Serve as the primary clinical SME for engineering, software, and AI/ML development teams—translating clinical needs into technically precise user stories, acceptance criteria, and verification/validation requirements
· Participate actively in design reviews, sprint planning sessions, and feature prioritization discussions; push back constructively when proposed solutions do not meet clinical workflow realities
· Lead image quality optimization by applying strong sonographic expertise and effectively translating clinical image quality requirements into engineering discussions around key ultrasound parameters, transducer performance, and imaging modes.
· Contribute to human factors and usability engineering activities including formative evaluations, simulated use testing, and summative usability studies
Clinical Evaluations & Validation
· Plan, coordinate, and lead internal and external clinical evaluations of pre-commercial and released products
· Ensure all external evaluations are conducted in compliance with applicable IRB, HIPAA, and investigational device regulations
· Document evaluation findings with clinical precision; produce structured evaluation reports suitable for inclusion in Design History Files (DHF) and regulatory submissions
· Identify and cultivate Key Opinion Leader (KOL) relationships within target clinical specialties, support advisory board activities and clinical study design
Field Engagement & Demonstrations
· Lead high-stakes clinical demonstrations to prospective customers, hospital systems, EMS agencies, and conference attendees; adapt messaging and image acquisition strategies to each audience and application
· Support sales and marketing teams with clinical content, hands-on training, and expert-level product guidance
· Develop and deliver clinical training programs for customers across all supported POCUS applications; create training materials, quick-reference guides, and image optimization tips
Cross-Functional & Strategic Contributions
· Maintain current awareness of POCUS market trends, clinical guidelines, reimbursement changes, and emerging application areas; synthesize intelligence into actionable product strategy inputs
· Interface with Regulatory Affairs on clinical claims, intended use definitions, and 510(k) and international submission support as needed
· Represent the company at clinical conferences, society meetings, and trade shows
· Contribute to marketing collateral review, clinical white papers, and peer-reviewed publication strategy
Qualifications:
Education & Credentials
· Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program required; bachelor's or advanced degree preferred
· RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) required; candidates with multiple registries (RVT, RMSKS, RDCS, RCS) will be given strong preference
· Additional certification or training in point-of-care ultrasound is a significant plus
Experience
· Minimum 5 years of clinical diagnostic ultrasound experience, with demonstrated proficiency across multiple applications; 8+ years preferred
· Hands-on POCUS experience in acute care settings (ED, ICU, OR, EMS, or similar) strongly preferred
· Prior experience in a commercial or product development role (clinical development, clinical applications specialist, clinical education, or similar) with a medical device or ultrasound manufacturer is highly desirable
· Experience participating in or designing clinical research protocols, IRB submissions, or usability studies is a plus
Technical & Analytical Skills
· Expert-level ability to assess ultrasound image quality across B-mode, color/spectral Doppler, M-mode, and emerging modalities
· Demonstrated ability to translate clinical workflow observations into written engineering requirements, user stories, or structured feedback using tools like Jira, Confluence, or equivalent
· Proficiency with standard productivity and collaboration tools (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, video conferencing platforms)
· Familiarity with FDA regulatory frameworks (510(k), De Novo, HFE/usability engineering, SaMD) is an asset
Preferred Qualifications:
This role demands a specific blend of clinical credibility, analytical rigor, and startup-ready adaptability. We are looking for someone who:
· Operates independently and takes initiative—identifies what needs to be done and does it without waiting to be asked
· Communicates with precision—speaks the language of both clinicians and engineers, and knows which mode to switch into and when
· Exhibits exceptional attention to detail—in image quality assessments, written documentation, and data capture
· Is highly organized and manages competing priorities effectively in a dynamic, resource-constrained environment
· Is genuinely passionate about POCUS and its potential to improve patient outcomes, particularly in underserved or high-acuity settings
· Thrives on ambiguity—comfortable building processes, templates, and workflows from scratch where none exist
· Is a collaborative team player who builds trust quickly across clinical, technical, and commercial stakeholders
· Maintains a growth mindset—actively seeks feedback, stays current on clinical literature, and continuously develops technical expertise
BENEFITS & COMPENSATION
· Salary $110k - $140k (depending on experience and location)
· Remote Work
· Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
· Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
· Stock Option Plan
· Short and Long Term Disability
· Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
· Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
